CELTIC WISDOM - The Celtic Way
The People of the Gift
In Celtic society there was a special word for artists - AOS DANA - or the “People of the Gift. “ They were seen as the ones who kept the community connected to the world of spirit and the realm of the sacred. Through their music and stories and poetry they were a bridge of inspiration between the community and the unseen world. “HWYL” was the Welsh word for the ecstasy that would flow through an artist or Orator who spoke with great integrity and was truly connected to the Goddess of Inspiration.
The Celts held a great kinship with nature and all living things. Celtic people saw the Earth as Holy and something to be revered. Trees, rivers, lakes, the brooks and ancient springs were filled with the energy of the Divine. All the animals and the birds were part of the greater mystery and a legacy of beauty that came from the land. It’s a beautiful metaphor to return to as our planetary web of life is being threatened. The restoration of the sacred and great love of the Land as a living legacy for the coming generations is a worthy intention for all us of us to set for our children and our community.
